4) Question: “I’m buying a home and my inspector says the house needs kick-out flashings. Does it?”

Answer: Absolutely! The absence of these flashing terminations is a well documented problem. Without them, the water that runs down the roof to an extent is pressure injected behind the stucco. Most commonly occurring at the termination of a roof line, there is also a termination in the underlying water-resistant barrier. Any leak at this point normally enters the structure causing significant structural damage. There are other locations which require this type of flashing termination and are often missed during original construction.
